HOW TO GET THERE
Goa can be reached by air (Dabolim airport) and by many buses, primarily from Mumbai and Bangalore. If you drive from Mumbai or Pune, you get to see the breathtaking scenery of the Konkan area. Indian Railways connects Goa to Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Mangalore, Kochi, Kolkata, Thiruvanantapuram, Bangalore; Chennai and Hyderabad (the station is usually Madgaon in South Goa). Travelling to Goa by train is a real pleasure as the route passes through greenery and many tunnels. Old-timers will remember taking the steamer from Mumbai, but it is no longer there.
WHERE TO STAY
This is not the peak season, so hotel rates are easier on the pocket than in the November-March period. Among budget hotels are Montego Bay, Sussegado Nature Retreat. You can also stay in a renovated ancestral home located in quiet, relaxed villages, within easy reach of cities and beaches. Star hotels like Cidade de Goa and a couple from the Taj group offer all the comforts.
