Red Fort Travel
RED FORT
The Red Fort is, probably, one site in India, which is not directly connected to our independence struggle. Though on the occasion of our Independence Day, every year, the walls of this historic monument situated In Old Delhi, transform into an all-important venue it is from here that the Prime Minister of the country delivers his/her speech after unfurling the tricolour. The skyline is known to be dotted with kites, flown as a symbol to commemorate our freedom from the British.
It is a little difficult for tourists to visit this UNESCO-declared World Heritage Site around 15th August due to security reasons. However, on other days, over a thousand tourists throng to see this architectural splendour. The Government also holds a light and sound show for tourists, taking them on a journey through the different ages this great structure has been witness to.
Getting there

History says
The Red Fort or Lai Qila, built between 1639 and 1648, was the brainchild of Emperor Shah Jahan. The architecture sees the confluence of Persian, East European and Indian art styles; each having reached its respective pinnacle during the reign of Shah Jahan, who was known for his eye for detail. Be it the Naqqar Khana (a gallery for musicians), the Diwan-e-Aam (a court held for the general public) or the Diwan-e-Khaas (a court held for a special audience), amongst many other buildings within the fort complex; the exquisite and intricate artwork expressed through colours and designs just cannot escape the eye.
