Egypt was one of the greatest civilizations of the past. The nile river has been the source of economic, social, political and religious life since the area was first settled, around 5000 years ago Upper and Lower Egypt were unified under the rule of Mens, giving rise to the first stable dynasty of kings. Egypt one the country in the world has so many impressive ancient remains. the people who lived there thousands of years ago have left us a wonderful legacy of art, architecture and literature.

 

The Jubilee Court

The Jubilee Court is located to the southeast of the Step Pyramid. On the west side of the court are "dummy" buildings which replicate the shape of canonical shrines of Upper Egypt.

 

The Tomb of Horemheb

The Tomb of Horemheb is in the necropolis of Saqqara, south of the Step Pyramid. Horemheb was general under both Tutankhamun (c. 1332-1322 B.C.E) and Ay (c. 1322-1319 B.C.E).

Horemheb`s linen garment flares beyond his arms and legs as he bows and raises his arms in reverence before the deities.

Each stands on a small plinth, and each holds in the right hand an ankh, the hieroglyphic symbol for life. Maat, goddess of truth, order, and the harmony of the universe, is on the far left.

Thoth, god of wisdom, writing, and the moon, has the body of a man and the head of and ibis.

Re-Horakhty (Horus as god of the sun) has the body of a man and the head of a falcon.

 

The Giza Plateau

The Giza Plateau is part of the necropolis of ancient Memphis.

The Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops; c.2585-2560 B.C.E), on the right, is the largest of the three pricipal pyramids on the Giza Plateau. It is 450 feet/137.2 meters in height.

The Pyramid of Khafre (Chefren; c. 2555-2532 B.C.E.), on the left, is 448 feet/136.5 meters in height.

The Pyramid of Menkaure (Mycerinus; c.2532-2510 B.C.E.)

 

The Sphinx

The Sphinx, with its monumental proportions, lion's body, and human facial features, provides an unexpected naturalistic contrast to the geometric shapes of the pyramids.

Sphinx was carved out of a ntural outcropping of rock around the time of the construction of the Pyramid of Khafre.

 

Saqqara

The step pyramid was designed for Kind Djoser (Dynasty 3) by his vizier Imhotep. The pyramid is located in Saqqara, The Step Pyramid is the first known monumental structure made of stone anywhere in the world. It is a series of six levels of stone decreasing in size as they ascend to about 200 feet/60 meters in height.

The Step Pyramid originally began as a mastaba, and it may have been visualized as a series of mastaba shapes, decreasing in size stacked one on top of another.

 

Mount Sinai

Mount Mousa, referred to as Jebel Musa, Gebel Mousa, Mount Moses or the Mountain of Moses is considered be that biblical peak.

The 7,497 feet mountain has 3,750 steps hewn out of stone by monks of St. Catherine`s onastery, which is located just to the Noth.

It is recommended that you take the steps down, as they will lead you past the fountain of Moses, a small chapel of the Virgin, and two arches, the Gate of St. Stephen and the Gate of the Law.

 

Sharm el-Sheikh

The simplicity of sun, sea and sand. The luxury of five-star hotels, water sports, shopping and entertainment. This is Sharm el-Sheikh, one of the most accessible and developed tourist resort communities on the Sinai peninsula. 

All around are Bedouins, colorful tents, mountains and sea. There are small, intimate hotels with modern designs, as well as larger hotel complexes belonging to International chains, plus about all the amenities one could expect of a tourist center, including casinos, discos and nightclubs, golf courses and health facilities. 

 

Luxor

Luxor has often been called the worlds greatest open air museum, as indeed it is and much more. The number and preservation of the monuments in the Luxor area are unparalleled anywhere else in the world that know of. Actually, what most people think of as Luxor is really three different areas, consisting of the City of Luxor on the East side of the Nile, the town of Karnak just north of Luxor and Thebes, which the ancient Egyptians called Waset, which is on the west side of the Nile across from Luxor. 

 

Aswan

Aswan, Egypt's sunniest southern city and ancient frontier town located about 81 miles south of Luxor, has a distinctively African atmosphere. Its ancient Egyptian name was Syene. Small enough to walk around and graced with the most beautiful setting on the Nile, the pace of life is slow and relaxing. Days can be spent strolling up and down the broad Corniche watching the sailboats etch the sky with their tall masts or sitting in floating restaurants listening to Nubian music and eating freshly caught fish.
