Rock climbing india
Another adventure sport which has grown in
popularity by leaps and bounds over the recent
years is rock climbing. This is a sport that
combines physical strength and mental concentration
to the utmost degree. North India has a large
number of quality climbing surfaces, which
offer a variety of options to the professional
as well as the novice.
The main areas for the sport include -
Delhi - Lado Sarai in New Delhi, Dam Dama
Lake (65 km from Delhi) and Dhauj (55 km from
Delhi) provide great rock surfaces.
Himachal Pradesh - Manali and Dharamshala
provide some tough climbing surfaces.
Rajasthan - Mount Abu, Golden Horn Spire and
Adhar Devi are good for both amateurs and
professionals.
Artificial climbing walls have become a fad
in recent times. These can be found in Delhi,
Darjeeling, Manali, Bikaner, Uttarkasi and
Badarpur (Haryana).
The sport can be enjoyed throughout the year
in most regions except for the Himalayas where
you can try your strength and agility only
from April to June.
In most areas you do not need a rock-climbing
permit. There may be some restricted areas
for which for which permits can be obtained
from the Indian Embassies or Consulates or
the FRRO
