Tucked away in one corner of the Bay of Bengal is
an archipelago of islands called the Andamans. Here
are pristine islands of tropical forests littered
jewel-like along the velvet blue of the sea, perfect
for a holiday on its golden beaches. The Andaman and
Nicobar group of 293 islands stretch over 700 kms.
Rich evergreen rain forests abound the islands which
have abundant bird life and an interesting, multi
colour sea-life. The water in exotic shades of green,
blue and turquoise is like a sheet of clear glass
through which one can view the coral beds.
The local Islanders or the tribal people are aborigines
with Negroid features. Living in jungles, they seem
cut off from the modernising effects of the rest
of the world. In fact, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands
are one of the last frontiers that have resisted
the onslaught of civilizations. It has areas where
tribals still live like man did thousands of years
ago. No one is allowed to visit these areas. But
the islands you can visit offer the lure of underwater
Coral gardens, unspoiled beaches and watersports
like diving, windsurfing, fishing, angling, water
skiing, snorkelling, etc. You could even collect
rare shells on the beaches and study marine life.
Truly a tourists dream holiday!
