Hawa Mahal It’s built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. The palace is shaped like a pyramid & is a five storied building, with number of small windows, screens, with arched roofs. The reason behind Hawa Mahal was built, in ancient time when women of royal families had to observe strict veil (Purdah), so that royal family’s ladies could watch & enjoy the procession, other activities on the street below. Now it houses a well laid out museum. Jantar Mantar The name of ‘Jantar Mantar’ comes from Sanskrit’s word ‘Yantra Mantra’ meaning instruments and formulae. Built in 18th century by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the huge masonry instruments were used to study the movement of constellations and stars in the sky. Jai Singh built the first stone observatory in 1724 in Delhi. The Jaipur observatory was built in 1728. The observatory has the Jaiprakash Yantra, Samrat Yantra, Ram Yantra and the Composite instrument. Actually a fascinating story is relation to the construction of the Observatory. According to story, Sawai Jai Singh II sent his envoys to various parts of the world. City Palace The City Palace was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of the Kachhwaha clan of Rajputs, but a lot of changes and additions were made to the original structure by his successors. It occupies about one seventh of the old city area. The architecture of the City Palace is a synthesis of Rajasthani and Mughal styles. Complex contain of many structures, courtyards, gardens and buildings. Famous temple called the Shri Govind Temple and a museum inside, named the City Palace Museum. Amer Fort Amer is located at distance of 11 kilometers from Jaipur. It’s a fine blend of Hindu Muslim Architecture. The original palace was built by Raja Man Singh, the additional extensions were built by Maharaja Jai Singh and Sawai Jai Singh is the last Maharaja of Amer, who built a new city called Jaipur, where he shifted his capital in 1727. A Fort is built with white marble & red stone & looks more attractive due to Maota Lake inside. Govind Dev Ji Temple The most popular temple of Jaipur dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is located in the central pavilion of the Jai Niwas Garden to the north of Chandra Mahal. Sawai Jai Singh installed the image of GOVIND DEV JI (an incarnation of lord Krishna) after it was brought from Vrindavan. The idols of RADHA KRISHNA are dressed in different styles each time for the ‘AARTI’ procession where thousands of followers ‘BHAKT’ gather around the courtyard for the Darshan. B. M. Birla Auditorium & Planetarium This is a modern temple built of white marble on top of a hill. The main auditorium with a seating capacity of 1350 people is one of the largest auditoriums in India, built to international conference standards. The presiding God’s are Vishnu (One of the Hindu Trilogy Gods) called Narayan & his consort Laxmi Goddess of wealth.
